EA made a mistake – Syndicate and Ultima games are free on GOG!

EA has removed classic games from the GOG platform, but it has angered a lot of fans. The publisher then made amends by bringing them back for free.

A few months ago, we reported that EA had requested the removal of 4 titles from GOG (CD Projekt‘s digital platform): the first two Syndicate games and Ultima Underworld 1+2. Four PC classics and retro gems from the company. We didn’t know the reasons at the time, only that fans were pretty upset. Now we’re showing you how to get it for free until September 3!

But first, we’ll tell you what happened! So far, several pieces of the story puzzle have been missing, but a member of the publisher’s staff has recently lifted the veil on those too. EA’s Chris Bruzzo spoke to GamesIndustry about what happened, while thanking fans for their interest in the titles decades after their original release.

“When we make decisions that affect gamers, we take the time to consider exactly what the potential impacts are and whether they are in the best interest of gamers,” said Bruzzo, who continued, “When Syndicate and Ultima Underworld were retired, we skipped that step, but we didn’t fully consider the player’s perspective,” he admitted.

This time, however, the players’ perspective was taken into account when the decision was made, and the game was re-released in the same place, with the aforementioned free promotion to get the works to as many players as possible. Look out for them on GOG until 3 September!
