Gunzilla Games’ Shooter Game Builds On Player Choice And Freedom

Richard K. Morgan (the writer of Syndicate and Crysis 2, who also wrote a book called Altered Carbon) claims that Gunzilla’s first game will be a pretty serious offering, not just because Neill Blomkamp (known for his sci-fi flicks) being involved!

Gunzilla Games is developing a multiplayer shooter game that is set to go for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The game is confirmed to have Morgan, Blomkamp (the chief visionary officer), and Olivier Henriot (the executive narrative director) work on it. The development started a year ago, and Morgan told WCCFTech  a few details about the project.

“Usually, in multiplayer shooters, all the complex world and elements, which tell a story of their own, remain primarily unexploited due to focus on the main action. At Gunzilla, we want players to explore and progressively understand the world in which they operate. We want to offer options to do, see and experience more.

Our robust reward system will allow players to benefit from completing narrative-driven challenges that will populate the game world without having to focus on the usual multiplayer shooter performance indicators, precision, and action-focused elements. In addition, our game will offer a robust reputation system, which is intrinsically tied to the game’s narration – we want the players to feel recognized and acknowledged in this world. Players can progress, even apart from the usual genre action. If players focused on RPGs wish to play our game similar to their favourite genre, or instead just explore the world, they can do that!

Of course, for those looking for a more straightforward shooter experience, our game will also offer that. The narration should never be in the way of the gameplay, especially in a multiplayer game. This is in line with our focus on players’ freedom: they should be able to choose their level of involvement in the narrative and not feel forced to experience it,” Morgan said.

We still have to wait about 2-3 years to see the game released.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
