Filming has started on the long awaited Batgirl film, starring Leslie Grace.
Filming has officially started on Batgirl. The directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah shared an image on Instagram from the set, revealing a slate with the Batgirl logo, and a nameplate: “Officer Barbara Gordon.” The location is tagged as Gotham City, presumably at the city’s police department building, and the caption reads, “Day one of Batgirl!!!”
Leslie Grace will play protagonist Barbara Gordon in Batgirl, who is the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. It also leaked, that Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons will return to reprise that role for this new movie. The actor has also suggested that the elder Gordon’s role in Batgirl will be rather substantial, than in the previous DC movies.
“I’m excited to be the once and future Jim Gordon”, said Simmons to Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, adding that the he will go on shooting in Glasgow somewhere around January. Other reports have also emerged, stating that Brendan Fraser will play the role of movie’s villain, Firefly. ComingSoon says Bad Boys for Life star Jacob Scipio has also joined the cast in a mystery role.
The screenplay is wrote by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash), and while not much information has leaked off it, J.K. Simmons’ return seems to confirm that Batgirl is set in the DCEU. But what would that mean for the Caped Crusader, Batman? There’s no word at this time of Ben Affleck coming back for Batgirl, as it was last reported that he’d end his run in the role in the upcoming movie The Flash. Batgirl will debut exclusively on HBO Max in 2022.
