The Matrix Awakens experience is now available for free pre-download for PS5 and Xbox Series. Built with Unreal Engine 5, the game is set to coincide with the premiere of The Matrix Rises.

Just a few days ago, Matrix fans were treated to a very special leak : The Matrix Awakens , an Unreal Engine 5 experience that will use the full power of PS5 to immerse you in the world that we’ve known for over 20 years, including Neo. The style of the game remains a mystery, but the creators are keen to open the door further into this universe, and have announced a brand new teaser for The Matrix Awakens preview download for PS5 and Xbox Series .

This is shared by Keanu Reeves himself in a short teaser video, indicating that the ‘experience’ will be available to download for free on both platforms. Of course, we won’t know what to make of it until it’s unveiled at the Geoff Keighley Gala, where we’ll only see a very distinctive Matrix-style console.

It also served to tell us more about the overall vision for The Matrix Awakens, as it seems that we’re going to be presented with a whole new experience focused on storytelling by the makers of The Matrix movie. The Xbox website suggests as much:“Get ready to get a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with Unreal Engine 5 in this free, real-time, cinematic technology demo that pushes the boundaries.”

Of course, The Matrix has always been known for taking everything we know about technology and our perception of our surroundings to the next level, so it’s no surprise that they’ve made their way into the realm of video games. And not for the first time, either, with two action games based on the films, Enter the Matrix and The Matrix: Path of Neo , and an MMORPG, The Matrix Online, being based on the films.
