Nintendo Switch is now, Nintendo’s bestselling console of all time. Nintendo Switch remains unstoppable: the hybrid console has surpassed 100 million units sold.
And it’s the third best-selling console overall: Sony’s PS2 is the most successful with sales of 155 million and the PS4 has sold 116.6 million so far. The hybrid’s success has been boosted by the launch of the OLED model at the end of 2021.
The Switch is now Nintendo’s most popular console. And it’s the third best-selling console overall: Sony’s PS2 is the most successful with sales of 155 million and the PS4 has sold 116.6 million so far.
Sony’s PlayStation 2 had long reigned as the best-selling video game console of all time, but it is very rare for a gaming console to manage to stay strong in the lead after a significant period of time from release. The data is from the latest financial results report shared by the Japanese company.
The figure achieved and the time elapsed since the Switch’s launch in 2017 put the hybrid selling faster than PS4 and Wii, other successful consoles if we look at that same margin. The Wii has 101.63 million units sold, while the PS1 has 102.49 million.
Territorially, it has sold over 24 million consoles in Japan. In America, it has sold 40 million more, in Europe almost 27 million, and the sales figures for the rest of the world are 12 million.
The Japanese figures are not surprising. Switch sold five times as other consoles in Japan in 2021. In the US, it was the best-selling console of 2021 and the best-selling console of Christmas. In other markets, such as the US, we also see a market dominance that continues to expand over the years.
The Nintendo Switch has surpassed sell in of 100 million units, reaching 103.54m as of December 31, 2021.
It reaches the 100m milestone faster than the PS4 and Wii (The DS reached 100m faster).
