Electronic Arts has more news, including some rumours regarding F1 2022.
Tom Henderson on Xfire wrote that this year’s Formula 1 game would not have a story mode (which was Braking Point in 2021), but in return, they are innovating with several things. For example, there will be an F1 Life game mode, where you can get an insight into the lives of F1 drivers and buy luxury items. So you can have those big, expensive watches on your wrists, but you can also have supercars – powerful sports cars that can be driven on the road.
The twist is that these cars (such as the Mercedes-AMG One) can’t compete with F1 cars, but Henderson says we can race them online against similar cars on any of the twenty-three circuits. In return, there will be no story mode, which reportedly won’t be implemented in this year’s episode due to tight deadlines, but will return next year. There’s also talk of cross-play, which has so far been left out of the series, and there’s also rumours of VR support. If cross-play makes it in, F1 2022, due out around the summer, could be the first EA Sports title to feature it.
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has begun removing the Russian national and club teams from FIFA 22, NHL 22, FIFA Mobile, and there’s a chance it will cut the Sochi track from F1 2022 (the Russian Grand Prix is cancelled altogether after breaking the contract with the organisers…). According to FIFA’s Twitter page, they have started removing the teams concerned. EA Sports expresses, “EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine. In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products, including FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We’re also actively evaluating related changes to other areas of our games. We will keep our communities up to date on any actions taken and thank players for their patience as we work through these updates.”
And on NHL 22’s Twitter, they wrote, “Following the IIHF’s suspension of all Russian and Belarusian national and club teams from IIHF competitions, we will be removing these teams from NHL 22 within the coming weeks. We stand with the people of Ukraine and join the voices around the world calling for peace.”
So Electronic Arts is not backing down.
