Francis Ford Coppola Says George Lucas Really Deserves A Walk Of Fame Star

MOVIE NEWS – Francis Ford Coppola feels that the Hollywood Walk of Fame is incomplete without a star for George Lucas.

Many fans may be surprised to learn that George Lucas is not among the filmmakers who have been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As someone who changed film history forever with his work on significant franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, there’s really no question that the legendary filmmaker deserves to be honoured. It may not have happened yet, but if it helps speed up the process, The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola has offered to give Lucas his spot.

On Monday, Coppola himself will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Given his own impressive career, some filmgoers may be equally baffled that Coppola has yet to be inducted into the famous walkway. In a new interview with Variety, Coppola spoke about the situation and explained why it took decades for this to happen, suggesting that it all basically comes down to who funds the induction.

“The way that it works is that when a picture opens, the studio that has financed or distributed it pays to get your name on the street. Since I have either financed or distributed my own movies, I’ve never had the good fortune of having a studio take that event.”

Coppola also pointed out that George Lucas doesn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame. Coppola says this is particularly glaring, and he himself goes so far as to offer Lucas his own star.

“If anyone deserves a star on the Walk of Fame, it’s George. I’ll give him mine.”

Despite all this, Coppola remains honoured to be part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Given his lifetime in Hollywood, he is “proud” to have his name canonized alongside so many of his contemporaries and to have his legacy honoured alongside theirs.

“Although it seems as though I’ve been a rebel against Hollywood, in fact I am a Hollywood creature. I was created by Hollywood and I’m very proud of being part of the Hollywood tradition. If I can be part of this group, this wonderful tradition of Hollywood, it pleases me.”

That’s not to say that George Lucas’ work hasn’t made it onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2018, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, was inducted, with Lucas and Harrison Ford in attendance to pay a touching tribute to their friend. Lucas was visibly very proud that the Star Wars legend had been honoured.

Ford, famous for his roles as Han Solo and Indiana Jones, was inducted into the Walk of Fame in 2003. The late Star Wars legend and beloved Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, will receive her own star on the Walk of Fame posthumously this year.
