Lots Of Surprises In Store For The Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

MOVIE NEWS – Rupert Friend’s recent statement gives Star Wars fans something to get excited about. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which will debut next month, is set to deliver plenty of easter eggs.

After watching the trailer for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series, one would think the makers would have shown off most of their arsenal. Or did they? Rupert Friend, in a talk with HeyUGuys about his new series Anatomy of a Scandal, shared plenty of exciting teases abou the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series:

“If it’s possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be. I think [the series] is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon. I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films. You know, we can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you, but Easter eggs galore… Yeah, it’s a thrilling ride.”

Not much was known about the series, which is set to debut in May, until the trailer was released, only that Ewan McGregor would likely return to the Star Wars franchise, but now we’re learning more and more news about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Darth Maul, for example, was said to be returning to the story in a live-action version and only then ‘giving way’ to Darth Vader as the main villain. Previous month, it also emerged that Hayden Christensen will be returning to the Star Wars universe in the series. Here’s what the actor had to say about his return:

“The whole experience was very surreal. The first time that I saw Ewan as Obi-Wan again, that was a very special moment for me, and one that I’ll remember for a very, very long time. Deborah came up and we spent the day chatting. She told me a little bit about the project and her vision for it, and I just thought that it sounded wonderful. I was very excited to come back.”

The plot of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, by the way, takes place a decade after The Revenge of the Sith, meaning the characters are not much past the crucial Mustafarian battle. It will be really interesting to see how Anakin – by this time Vader – and Obi-Wan Kenobi will meet again after the dramatic clash in Mustafar.  The Disney+ series will air for the first time on 27 May, but we’ll probably have to wait a little longer before the two iconic characters meet again on screen.
