The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Brutal New Trailer For The Multiplayer Horror Game! [VIDEO]

Gun Media’s upcoming multiplayer horror game, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has received a new gameplay trailer during its second Xbox launch.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of the most influential slasher films in cinema history. Although it was a major controversy when it was released, it has been praised for its social commentary and for establishing many familiar horror movie genre tropes. While the last film in the franchise may not have made a big splash, the publisher of Friday the 13th: The Game is continuing to make a game based on the 1973 classic.

Gun Media announced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre last December during the 2021 Game Awards.

Like Friday the 13th, it’s an asymmetrical multiplayer game that received a new gameplay trailer during Tuesday’s Extended Xbox Showcase. Despite being less than a minute long, it gives fans some taste of what to expect when the game releases next year.

Similar to Friday the 13th: The Game and Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, players will take on the role of either the killer or potential victims. For The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the former is the iconic Leatherface and the rest of his cannibalistic family. The latest trailer shows some examples of how players will do this: the “victim” players will sneak, run and hide as they navigate the rooms and tunnels of the ranch. The “Family” chases them down, searching for hiding places and ambushing them as they close in for the kill.

Based on what the developers have revealed so far, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows the same basic format as Guns Friday the 13th.

Victims are trapped in an isolated location inspired by the film and must band together to escape. However, a potential wrinkle is that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows not one family of killers but an entire family. Several members of the Sawyer family, known in the game as the Slaughter Family, appear in the trailer. However, it is unclear if and how they will interact with each other.

The one-against-all dynamic worked well in Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight. However, Gun Media may decide to do something different for its next game. Hopefully, fans will get a better idea of exactly what to expect before the game’s release next year at the latest.
