One snag: it looks like Peter Parker won’t be able to overcome Kratos and Atreus.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has hit Steam (and the Epic Games Store) at full price, so you’ll have to pay $60/€ to play the remastered version of the previously PlayStation 4-exclusive game, which also got a PlayStation 5 overhaul. The start is essential for a single-player title like this, as it’s not a live service product designed for the long term (but we’ve already seen a massive upset this year, with Square Enix and PlatinumGames’ Babylon’s Fall having ONE player on Steam). Sony can nod in approval in this aspect.
On Twitter, Benji-Sales posted that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered had 64,893 concurrent players on Steam at one point. That’s not bad, but the PC port of God of War, also initially released in 2018, reached a higher number (73,529 concurrent players). It’s still a much better performance than Sony’s other two PC releases, with Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition reaching 56,557 players and Days Gone only 27,450. (Maybe that’s why Sony dropped the sequel because they don’t think it’s a blockbuster title from Bend Studio…)
This result proves that although the remastered version was released on PlayStation 4 nearly four years ago and then on PlayStation 5 almost two years ago, there is still demand for Insomniac Games’ game (ported to PC by Nixxes Software). From a distance, it also means that there is interest in PlayStation Studios’ project on PC. Still, Sony is unwilling to simultaneously release exclusives (such as The Last of Us Part I) on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Some PC integration may be in the works (we recently wrote about it, saying that a specific word on the PlayStation PC website might be suspicious). Still, until it’s official, we can only speculate.
