Telltale’s new game, The Expanse, introduces more options to give the player more control over the storyline.

 

 

As one of the most beloved series for sci-fi fans, the announcement of The Expanse: A Telltale Series excited many genre fans. The game, developed by the people behind Life is Strange: Before the Storm and the more recent Life is Strange: True Colors, didn’t miss Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live, giving us a closer look at the gameplay of the title based on the book and TV saga.

“The Expanse world is rich with complex characters that grow and change, so it’s a wellspring of compelling stories and difficult choices,” said Matt Saia, Vice President of Revival at Telltale Games. “Camina Drummer is a character who is strong but fair, with an unexplored background and tremendous story arc, so it was an easy choice to make her our main protagonist,” he added.

Cara Gee, the actress who plays the character in both the series and the game, was also part of the behind-the-scenes video, where she talked about her experience with the game and the series, bringing “the same energy” to The Expanse adventure. According to the developers, they couldn’t have captured the essence of the character without the actress’ help.

One of the striking elements of the new gameplay is that the game feels quite dark in the style of the series, as there is a scene in which several decapitated human bodies are seen floating.

 

 

 

 

Telltale guarantees that there are “new gameplay elements that go beyond what people experienced” from the studio responsible for The Walking Dead adventures. “Players have greater authority over the action. The ability to communicate with the crew over radio at the player’s discretion keeps the plot and dialogue choices moving forward simultaneously with the player’s exploration, and all those character interactions affect the story’s conclusion.”

During its time at Gamescom 2022, The Expanse has also been updated with new screenshots and a release window: expect it in summer 2023. The game will be available for PC and major consoles, no further details were revealed.
