The Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition is Being Sold Online for An Outrageous Price

Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Interactive have unveiled a collector’s edition of the Hogwarts Legacy game, which is quite expensive.

With the rise of digital media, the number of Collector’s Editions of video games has become fewer than ever, but extravagant CEs are still available for purchase for the most avid fans of the big games. The soon-to-be-released Hogwarts Legacy could easily be one of the most anticipated games, so it’s no surprise that there will be a Collector’s Edition for it. Warner Bros. Interactive recently dropped the wraps on the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition, revealing what’s included and the hefty $299 price tag.

Despite being so expensive, the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition sold out almost immediately after the pre-order went up, and it’s unclear if there will be any more purchases before the game’s February release. Scammers have taken advantage of the situation by offering the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition for ridiculous prices online, such as on eBay, often hovering around $600. This means that some Harry Potter fans will pay twice the price of the Collector’s Edition if they missed the first wave of pre-orders.

As for the actual gameplay, the good news is that most of the in-game content in the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition is available to pre-order with the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. This includes the Dark Arts Pack, which includes a thestral mount, exclusive cosmetics and the Dark Arts Battle Arena. The 72-hour early access period is available to those who pre-order the Collector’s Edition of the game and those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition.

The main attraction of the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition is the physical items. The Collector’s Edition comes with a steel case and an actual copy of the game (unlike many other Collector’s Editions that come with a case but contain digital code instead of a disc), a life-size floating wand with a bookplate, and a Collector’s Edition box. Whether all of this is worth $300, let alone $600, depends on how excited we are about Hogwarts Legacy, but based on pre-orders already sold out, it’s clear that many Harry Potter fans are willing to pay a premium for such items.

Assuming there will be Collector’s Editions available for purchase in stores, they will be available on February 7, three days before the base game’s February 10 release. This applies to all versions of Hogwarts Legacy except the Switch port. The release date for the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy will differ from its PC, PlayStation and Xbox counterparts, although no specific date has been announced at the time of writing.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released on 10 February for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch version also in development.
