Images have surfaced online giving fans their first look at the next mainline entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Mirage.
Ever since the Assassin’s Creed franchise gave a “gentle” reboot with Assassin’s Creed Origins, fans have noticed a shift in the games away from more traditional action-stealth gameplay and towards titles that focus more on RPG elements. For some, these changes from the old Assassin’s Creed formula are great, while others long for a return to the days when a hidden blade strike would instantly kill an enemy. It seems that with the latest rumoured entry in the series, Ubisoft may be returning to the original Assassin’s Creed, or in other words, its stealth roots.
Much information about the latest game, which will reportedly be called Assassin’s Creed Mirage, has been leaked in recent months. Now, the latest details that have reportedly emerged about Assassin’s Creed Mirage appear to show off the game’s cover art and the pre-order bonus mission that fans will receive if they donate cash to the title before launch. Apparently shared first on Twitter by ScriptLeaksR6, it has not yet been verified whether these images are legitimate or not, but it was mentioned online that they popped up for a moment in Ubisoft’s store.
Assassin’s Creed games have included pre-order bonus missions for years, so it makes sense that Mirage would include one. According to the leak, Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s pre-order quest will be called “The Forty Thieves Quest”, a reference to a popular tale from Iraqi folklore (aka the tales of the Millennium Nights), which makes sense given that Ubisoft’s latest game in the long-running franchise is supposedly set in Baghdad.
As well as reportedly revealing the Assassin’s Creed Mirage pre-order bonus, the cover image also features the game’s assassin, who appears to be holding a sword in his right hand and the iconic hidden blade in the other. If previous leaks of the upcoming title are to be believed, this character is likely to be Basim, who is said to be the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Basim has also previously featured in the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla storyline, so the games may be set in a similar era.
It looks like fans will soon find out how much truth there is to these leaks when Ubisoft holds its Forward livestream on September 10, dedicated to the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In addition to Mirage, which will apparently take the series back to its roots, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be released soon, featuring many different historical locations that players can experience within one game.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is reportedly in development.
