The Last Of Us Part I: Was Joel’s Real Age Revealed?!

The Last of Us Part I was recently released, and many were impressed by the new visuals, which revealed a detail about Joel that many didn’t know before.

The Last of Us Part I is one of the most popular games of the last decade. With its compelling narrative, a stunning post-apocalyptic world torn apart by a pandemic, its characters – perhaps the best written in video game history – and its sublime voice acting, it stands out today. Much of this is not thanks to the recent remake, of course, but this latest version attempts to showcase the game’s rich universe in even greater detail, some of which was previously unknown.

In a recent post on Reddit, the remake of The Last of Us gave us a little more insight into the backstory of the game’s male protagonist, Joel.

Although he gives the impression of a rather weathered, middle-aged character, it hasn’t really been revealed how old he is in the games. Thanks to new footage, however, a user named Chopperz19 has managed to find such information. The image captured from the game shows Joel’s passport, and thanks to the high-resolution texture, it reveals that he was born in 1981. When the original game events take place, this will make him 52 years old at the time.

You could already tell when his birthday was, but not what year he was born, so it’s just a neat detail that might have been lost forever if it weren’t for the new textures. Joel is Ellie’s father figure in The Last of Us, but he’s also a hardened survivor in a cruel world. He’s a slightly complicated character, making him so enjoyable to play. The fact that it’s now revealed that he’s in his early 50s doesn’t change much about him, but it’s an excellent extra detail thrown into the story.

Thanks to the remake, fans have seen a more modern version of the 2013 release, and it will be interesting to see what other new information is revealed.

The Last of Us Part I has already spotted an easter egg in the form of a Mortal Kombat 2 poster, and more revelations are likely to be made as more people delve into the game.

Naughty Dog’s acclaimed series has been hailed as one of the best post-apocalyptic games ever made, alongside Fallout and The Walking Dead, and has been loved by many in recent years. Some might question why a title from nine years ago needs an official remake, but at least we get some extra details about the game’s protagonist.
