MOVIE NEWS – Jamie Lee Curtis will star in Disney’s upcoming Haunted Mansion remake in a film that will have plenty of humor in addition to “scary, witty stuff.”

 

More details have been revealed about Disney’s reimagining of The Haunted Mansion, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. For now, Curtis can be seen on the big screen in his new movie, Halloween Ends, which is playing in theaters now, although it can also be streamed on Peacock. If doesn’t plan on doing more Halloween movies just yet, though given his upcoming role in The Haunted Mansion, he’s not retiring from horror.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Curtis revealed some new details about the film, although he couldn’t reveal too many specifics. He said that although there will be scary moments in it, it will also be laced with a lot of humor. Curtis went on to say that director Justin Simien has cooked up “something delicious” with what The Haunted Mansion has in store for fans. As Curtis explains:

“I think they’ve found the sweet spot of scary, funny and adventurous. You know, that’s cooking. I hardly cook, I’m always trying to cook, and it’s all about the ingredients and then the mixture and the time, and it’s always difficult know if you’re going to make something delicious? And from what I’ve seen and heard, Justin has made something delicious. It’s modern, it’s fresh, it’s old-fashioned, and it’s scary, but not as scary as a monster movie. It’s as scary as a Disney movie , and it’s funny. If you went on that carousel, there’s a lot of humor in it besides the scary, spooky stuff.”

At the risk of angering the mouse company, Curtis shared a fun fact about The Haunted Mansion. He teased that his character is wearing the most beautiful clothes he’s ever donned in a movie, and while it doesn’t reveal anything about the plot, it does hint that we’ll be seeing Curtis in a different way than we’ve ever seen before.

“I’ll tell you something – all of a sudden Disney comes in and grabs me by the throat and takes me out and beats me. I’ve never worn such beautiful costumes in my life as [the Haunted Mansion costume designer] Jeffrey Kurland did for me in this movie – in my life . This is my big secret!”

The Haunted Mansion is coming in August 2023. Along with Curtis, The Haunted Mansion stars Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, Danny DeVito and Tiffany Haddish.
