A Game Has Suddenly Disappeared from PS Plus Extra Without Warning!

PS Plus Extra subscribers have suddenly lost access to a game without warning.

The middle tier of Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service is known as PS Plus Extra, and subscribers get access to a large library of PS4 and PS5 games in addition to the monthly free games. PlayStation Plus games available at the PS Plus Extra level are not maintainable like other titles on the service, but instead work more like Xbox Game Pass or the defunct PlayStation Now, where their availability may vary.

In general, it’s rare for games to leave PS Plus Extra, at least not yet. Although some games have been removed from the PS Plus Extra offer since the introduction of the PS Plus Extra service this year, most of the changes to the offer are in the form of new additions. And when a game is removed from PS Plus Extra, subscribers usually get some advance notice. Now, however, a PS Plus Extra game has been pulled from the lineup without warning, though it may be coming back sooner rather than later.

Push Square noticed that the JRPG Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana suddenly disappeared from PS Plus Extra, suspiciously close to that time , when the PS5 version of the game was released. Publisher NIS America has reached out to Push Square to confirm that the removal of Ys 8 from the PS Plus Extra lineup was in error and that the sudden removal is being investigated. Since it appears that this was simply a bug, anyone who played Ys 8 via PS Plus Extra will likely be able to play again once the issue is resolved.

The disappearance of Ys 8 from the PS Plus Extra catalog may be a frustrating development for some subscribers, but at least they know it wasn’t intentional. In the meantime, some PS Plus Extra subscribers might be looking for something else to play while they wait for Ys 8 to return. Fortunately, PS Plus Extra recently added 15 games, including most of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Special Edition, Ubisoft games such as Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division 2, as well as the critically acclaimed indie game What Remains of Edith Finch. Needless to say, there should be plenty of games for PS Plus Extra subscribers to check out, even considering Ys 8’s mysterious disappearance.

Those who pay a little more each month and subscribe to the PS Plus Premium tier of Sony’s subscription service can see even more games this month. PS Plus Premium subscribers get access to all the titles added through PS Plus Extra, in addition to classic games from the PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 eras. With the latest update, five more Ratchet & A Clank game has been added to PS Plus Premium and it will be exciting to see what else joins the lineup in the coming months.
