MOVIE NEWS – As usual, the author of The Witcher did not force his presence in the making of The Witcher: Blood Origin. Executive producer Lauren Hissrich talks about novelist Andrzej Sapkowski’s involvement in the Netflix prequel series.
Netflix continues to expand The Witcher universe on the streaming service. Two seasons of the basic series have already been released, the third is also being prepared, there is an animated film about Vesemir, and a prequel series is coming for Christmas.
Although many people know Geralt and his world because of the Witcher games – primarily CD Projekt Red Witcher 3 – the origin of the story comes from the mind of the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and the various novels of the Witcher Saga. But how involved was the novelist in the upcoming Witcher series: Blood Origin, which arrives on December 25?
According to executive producer Lauren Hissrich, she was not involved in the work and was happy to hand over the reins to the creative team. “We’re very lucky,” Hissrich told GameSpot. “Working with Andrzej was wonderful because he’s very clear with us. He wrote the books. He’s a novelist, and if he wanted to write a TV series, he would have written a TV series. So he gave us the creative freedom to kind of take his stories and kind of take them in a new format. express them, which he wouldn’t have been able to do himself. So that part was incredibly good because he gets all the scripts.
“I know he watches the episodes. I know he likes the episodes, but he doesn’t really want to be in the middle of filming. There was this crazy analogy of him going grocery shopping and making soup and saying, ‘I don’t want to do such work. I just want to enjoy the soup. So that’s what he’s doing with our shows, which I think is incredible. Very supportive.”
The Witcher: Blood Origin is coming to Netflix on December 25th. The four-part series takes place over 1,000 years before the events of The Witcher series, and Blood Origin leads to the creation of the very first Witcher. The series stars Laurence O’Fuarain, Sophia Brown, Zach Wyatt, Michelle Yeoh and Nathaniel Curtis. Francesca Mills plays a fighter who has her own war hammer now gathering dust in her bedroom. Joey Batey returns to the series as the beloved singer Jaskier.
The series is written and produced by Hissirch and Declan De Barra, who both worked on The Witcher as showrunner and writer, respectively.
In addition to the new series and the upcoming third season of the Witcher, there is also a remake of the first Witcher game, which will be made in Unreal Engine 5 and will be open world.
