A well-known leaker dispels rumors about the development of a new Spyro the Dragon game and when they might have been working on it.

 

A prominent leaker has been asked to comment on the rumored development of a new Spyro the Dragon game, but they have no good news to share. Since the release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018, there have been rumors of a revival of Spyro the Dragon. However, despite the success of the remasters, rumors have been largely uncertain as to what is actually happening with the Spyro franchise. If what the leaker says is true, it could be because the rumors are not reliable at all.

The latest Spyro rumor and current topic of discussion comes from YouTuber Candianguyehh. In a recent video, the YouTuber says he heard a new Spyro game is in development for 2020. The language used is apparently important, and Candianguyehh describes it as “technically speculative”. They then say they didn’t say the Spyro game is still in development, although they assume it is.

This statement was given to Sylux, a prominent and often reliable leaker. Sylux was asked to give his thoughts on whether a new Spyro game could be in the works in 2020, and whether it might still be in development. Sylux came up with a direct but eyebrow-raising statement. They specifically say that “there were no new Spyro titles in development for 2020,” but do not comment on any other aspect of the rumor.

On the one hand, Sylux outright suppresses the canadianguyehh rumor, which cuts the heart out of the whole debate. If that one thing the YouTuber said was true is actually not true, then all the speculation around the topic is worthless. Without more information, it is impossible to know if a new Spyro game was in development before 2020 and then canceled, or if development of a new Spyro game was picked up in 2021 or since. Sylux broke the hearts of many Spyro fans.

At the same time, it is also true that what Sylux didn’t say speaks louder than what it did say. If all they were willing to say was that there wasn’t a new Spyro game in development in 2020, then that does leave room for the development of a new Spyro game to start recently. Otherwise, Sylux would not have been so precise.

It is true that four years have passed since Since Spyro Reignited Trilogy‘s release. If there was a sequel, it would probably have been announced by now. In the years since, Toys for Bob has spent its time creating Crash Bandicoot 4 and the upcoming Crash Team Rumble. If they wanted to make a Spyro game, the window for that is getting smaller and smaller. However, Spyro fans are keeping the fire going, hoping that Activision will see that the community is still excited. Maybe that will be enough.
