The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Update 4.01 is Here – Except for One Platform!

Following last week’s promise, CD Projekt Red releases the patch pack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on all platforms except Nintendo Switch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received another patch for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. After The Witcher 3 next-gen update, only a few hotfixes were previously released, so this is the first official patch since the arrival of version 4.0.

The long-awaited next-gen patch for The Witcher 3 was celebrated by critics and gamers alike, especially because of how much was included in the free update. In addition to the obligatory graphical fidelity fixes, performance mode and ray tracing, CD Projekt Red introduced brand new content, a photo mode (albeit exclusive to PC and the new consoles) and an alternative way to throw signals. However, the appearance was not without its drawbacks. Reports of technical issues, stuttering, and performance drops started pouring in shortly after the release of version 4.0, especially on PC.

Two hotfixes before the New Year fixed most of the issues from the patch, but players were still experiencing issues such as not being able to properly interact with Avallac’h during the “Battle Preparations” quest – quite significant if someone was hoping to end the game. Patch 4.01 is now live and is said to fix this very bug. The update came last week, when CD Projekt Red released a helpful graphic showing the differences between some of the new physical copies of the game.

According to the patch note, the issue with Screen Space Reflections on PC has now been resolved, which means that the setting should work as intended, and the performance of this effect has also been improved on nextgen consoles. Additionally, a new performance mode has been added for ray-traced global lighting, aimed at improving frame rates. Both of the aforementioned changes are PC-only. On consoles, players no longer need to be able to “create more saves” than the limit, and the quality of Screen Space Reflections will improve on next-gen consoles.

In addition to these improvements, there are also a number of improvements to missions and cutscenes that will be welcomed by thousands of replayers of Geralt’s journey. Once again, players were captivated by the continent, with tons of additions and new secrets discovered in Velen, Novigrad, and Skellige. But while this may be the end for Geralt, it’s not the end for The Witcher, as CD Projekt Red has announced that more projects are in development for the franchise.

The The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S .
