Singles Are Free to Play This Summer Too

MOVIE NEWS – Will Gluck’s new romantic comedy is set in an alternate New York, where love, desire, and misunderstandings are compressed into one very unusual night.

Will Gluck’s name was already worth remembering after his previous film, because he delivered a charming romantic comedy that immediately broke a record. Anyone But You became the highest-grossing Shakespeare adaptation in movie history, offering a loose reworking of Much Ado About Nothing. Gluck is now back with a similar production in the big summer romantic comedy category.

The story of One Night Only takes place in an alternate New York where premarital sex is strictly forbidden – except for one night of the year, when singles are free to do as they please. At the beginning of the story, everyone is desperately rushing through the city to make the most of this single chance for a quick fling. Two lonely strangers, however, are looking for exactly the opposite: recently dumped Owen (Callum Turner) and incurably romantic Allie (Monica Barbaro) both want a real, deep connection.

Although the spark appears between them immediately during the chaotic night, it cannot ignite right away, because a chain of misunderstandings, coincidences, and missteps keeps separating them. They are forced to chase each other across the metropolis while everyone around them tries to make the most of the city’s one permitted night of freedom. According to Will Gluck, his film is another strong piece of evidence that the romantic comedy is alive and well – let us hope he is right.

One Night Only will be released in Hungarian cinemas on August 6, 2026.
