Compared to 2005’s Resident Evil 4, the 2023 remake omits an extra.
At the time, Capcom created a chainsaw controller for the revolutionary game (the over-the-shoulder camera view, the QTEs, and the dynamic camera were all different from the previous installments), which is understandable, as in the first half of the game you may have trouble with a particular character who can take Leon’s head off on the fly if you’re careless. That’s why it was an excellent idea for NubyTech to produce such a controller for Resident Evil 4 for GameCube and later PS2.
Game Informer caught up with Yasuhiro Ampo (director of Resident Evil 2 Remake) and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi (producer of Resident Evil 4 Remake) to discuss the chainsaw controller. Hirabayashi admitted that Capcom wanted to make one but poured all their resources into developing the game, and maybe they could do it again another time when they get the chance. If that were to happen, it’s almost certain that Capcom would make this controller for PlayStation 5 and PC. Of course, it’s not out of the question that the Xbox Series would also support this device, but we’d be more doubtful for the PlayStation 4.
The Resident Evil 4 Remake is in the same weird situation as Street Fighter 6. Both games run on the RE Engine, are current-gen titles and are coming to PlayStation 4 despite this. (We don’t rule out the possibility that Sony paid for it because the PS4 still managed to sell nearly 120 million units.) We wrote about the game’s system requirements the other day, and there’s no need to worry about having to replace all the parts on a PC (although if it’s older than a console generation, then yes).
Resident Evil 4 Remake arrives on March 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. And the chainsaw controller may never, but knowing Capcom, you never know.
