Another game has been announced for Xbox Game Pass this year, following previous plans to release it on other platforms.

 

 

Venba has announced that it will launch on Xbox Game Pass later this year. This is one of several games that was previously planned for other platforms but will be available to Game Pass subscribers from launch day.

Xbox Game Pass has been home to several acclaimed indie games in recent years, with Tunic, Vampire Survivors and Hollow Knight among the best games currently available on PC Game Pass.

Venba was one of the highlights of the November 2022 Indie World presentation. Developer Visai Games’ narrative cooking game, which has been announced for Switch and PC. According to a new announcement on Venba’s Twitter account today, the game is coming to PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S this spring. Venba will also be released on Xbox Game Pass, joining the service’s growing list of indie games.

Venba is set in 1980s Canada, and players take on the role of Venba, an Indian mother who plays the title character. She immigrated to the country with her family. The cooking in Venba is similar to the puzzles in adventure games. Players have to follow the recipes in a specific order. But the game also features authentic Indian cuisine and a storyline based around family and food. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Stardew Valley include cooking as a mechanic, similar to crafting. However, Venba is more in line with more immersive cooking games where cooking is the primary gameplay mechanic. Examples include Overcooked and Epic Chef.

Some of the most significant and influential indie games of recent years are those that play on older, now less mainstream game design styles.

This can be seen in the case of Tunic, which is consistently compared to The Legend of Zelda games, such as A Link to the Past but has many of its own original ideas. Similarly, Venba is inspired by classic adventure games such as King’s Quest and the Monkey Island series. But it has a culinary and cultural twist that makes it unique. Venba is due for release this spring. So Xbox Game Pass players won’t have long to wait to see what the game has in store.
