MOVIE NEWS – Jennifer Garner’s thriller “The Last Thing He Told Me” shatters viewership records on Apple TV+, making a monumental impact.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the streaming platform as “The Last Thing He Told Me”, debuted on April 14, already skyrocketed viewership within a month of its premiere.
According to a recent Nielsen report (source: Variety), the limited series drew a total of 4.5 million unique viewers in 31 days, becoming the most watched show in the history of Apple TV+. This feat surpasses other well-received and critically acclaimed shows like Black Bird, Slow Horses, Echo, and Shining Girls.
“The Last Thing He Told Me” keeps breaking records, its premiere episode has also become the most-watched single episode on the streaming platform this year. Currently, the series ranks in the top 3 most popular shows on the service, only surpassed by Ted Lasso and Shrinking.
The series narrates the story of Hannah, a woman who sets out to investigate the sudden disappearance of her husband, forming an unexpected alliance with her teenage stepdaughter, Bailey. The series stars Jennifer Garner, Angourie Rice, Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aisha Tyler, and Augusto Aguilera.
The narrative is adapted from Laura Dave’s bestseller of the same name. The author co-wrote the show with Josh Singer, with Garner, Lauren Neustadter, and Reese Witherspoon also serving as producers.
Although Apple TV+ isn’t one of the most popular streaming services and faces stiff competition from giants like Disney+ and HBO Max, it has managed to captivate audiences with its quality content. Despite a smaller catalogue compared to Netflix or Prime Video, Apple TV+ has produced standout titles.
Apple TV+ is set to continue its success with the return of popular series like The Morning Show and Shrinking, and plans to invest heavily in cinema, with Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon being the flagship title of this strategy. The film will enjoy a long theatrical run before becoming available for streaming. The suspense comedy, The After Party, will also return for a new season, having received rave reviews last year, particularly among fans of murder mysteries.
