Walt Disney Animation Studios Has Officially Announced that It Will Celebrate Disney’s 100th Birthday In October With 28 Restored Classic Short Films

MOVIE NEWS – Walt Disney Animation Studios is preparing for Disney’s centenary with 28 renewed short films. The special works will be available on the Disney+ platform, where six legendary works such as “The Skeleton Dance” or “Goofy the Bodybuilder” are already available.

The reimagined shorts pack includes iconic pieces like Disney’s first shorts from 1927, Trolley Troubles and All Wet, featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, as well as some examples of Silly Symphony classics like The Skeleton Dance, Merbabies and of Wynken, Blynken and Nod. Rounding out the package is “Sea Adventure,” a 1956 CinemaScope short featuring Donald Duck and his chipmunk adversaries, just in time for Disney’s centennial celebration.

The renovation projects were managed by the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation Team under the supervision of Director Kevin Schaeffer, in close collaboration with creative consultants from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The team includes Dorothy McKim, who produces special projects and 2D animation, Mike Giaimo, set designer for Frozen and the upcoming film Wish, and animation legend Eric Goldberg, who directed the animation of Aladdin’s genie, and he also directed the films Pocahontas and Fantázia 2000. This team recently completed the restoration of Cinderella and is currently working on the restoration of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Commenting on the project, Dorothy McKim said: “We are delighted to be able to present the classic Disney animated shorts in a beautifully restored version with the help of Kevin Schaeffer and the studio’s restoration team. Two of our top artistic talents contributed to this project to make the films look their best and faithfully reflect the creative vision of the original creators. We can’t wait to share this amazing short film series with Disney+ viewers. These contents have never been so enjoyable on the screen.”
