Sony Has Patented A New PS5 Controller Like We’ve Never Seen Before!

TECH NEWS – According to a recently published patent, Sony could be working on a new PS5 controller with slots for storing and charging earbuds.

Sony has filed a patent for a new PS5 controller with slots inside for storing earbuds. But the slots will not just be for storage. Users can also pair and charge their wireless earplugs with the new pad. The patent includes pictures showing the DualSense in several different positions. One of them is under the touchpad, suggesting that the exact configuration of this new PlayStation 5 controller had not been finalised at the time the patent was filed.

The news comes just a few days after Sony announced the InZone Buds, a gaming-focused wireless headset with 360 surround sound capability and a $200 price tag.

It’s not the only wireless earbud the tech giant will release in the coming months. The Pulse Explore earbuds were revealed alongside the soon-to-be-released PlayStation Portal in a PlayStation blog post back in August.

With two pairs of wireless earbuds in the pipeline, it’s easy to see why Sony is looking for ways to integrate these upcoming audio devices into the current PlayStation ecosystem. However, whether there will be demand for a controller designed to store and charge the wireless earbuds remains to be seen. Especially since both the Pulse Explore and InZone Buds come with their own chargers. Furthermore, the battery life of the current DualSense model is already a problem for some gamers.

It’s also worth noting that just because Sony has patented a new PS5 controller with headphone bays, it doesn’t necessarily mean the company is actively working on it.

After all, companies like Sony often file patents for technologies that never see the light of day. If only to prevent their competitors from using them. However, with the upcoming release of Pulse Explore and InZone Buds, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if a new DualSense controller was announced soon.

This is not the only controller-related patent that Sony has recently filed. In fact, far from it. Last month, a patent was published showing its DualSense plug-in touchscreen. Patents related to the PS5 Access Controller appeared online a few days before Sony officially unveiled the pad. With that in mind, this new PS5 pad may be announced sooner rather than later. But the chances of it arriving alongside the Pulse Explore or InZone Buds seem slim.
