MOVIE NEWS – The first official Madame Web trailer has finally been released. Sony Pictures has given us a sneak peek at the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film starring Dakota Johnson.

 

 

Dakota Johnson officially joins Sony’s Spider-Man universe in the first Madame Web trailer! Finally, the world can get a taste of the mysterious Marvel adventure. One of the most ambitious projects in Sony’s Spider-Man universe is Madame Web, in which Johnson plays Cassandra Webb. She is a powerful psychic with psychic abilities that allow her to enter the world of the spiders.

Even though Madame Web is set to finish filming in 2022, Sony Pictures has kept this upcoming film in the Sony Spider-Man universe very secretive compared to the rest of the franchise.

With Madame Web set to be one of the few Marvel films to hit theatres in 2024, Sony Pictures has finally released the first Madame Web trailer. It features Johnson as the titular heroine of the Spider-Man mythology. Directed by S.J. Clarkson from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, Madame Web also stars Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman, marking the character’s live-action debut.

Alongside Johnson and Sweeney, Madame Web also stars Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps and Zosia Mamet. With the SAG-AFTRA strike finally over, the film will not be further delayed. It will be released in February 2024. Sony Pictures has also released the first official synopsis, which describes the story of Cassandra Webb as follows.

The suspense thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic with psychic powers. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forms a relationship with three young women who face a great future… if they can all survive the deadly dangers of the present.

 

What does the Madame Web movie trailer reveal about Sony’s latest Spider-Man spinoff?

 

A vital element of the Madame Web trailer is the build-up to the conflict between Cassandra and Ezekiel Sims, played by Rahim. The latter dons a Spider-Man-like costume. Like Cassandra, Ezekiel seems to be able to see into the future. This brings him together with the younger girls. From the context of the trailer alone, it seems that Ezekiel is going after them from the future.

The footage shows Sweeney as Spider-Woman for the first time, but it also reveals more details about the cast of the film. Although the trailer doesn’t state or confirm their names, based purely on their costumes, it appears that Merced and O’Connor are Anya Corazon and Mattie Franklin, better known as Spider-Girl and Spider-Woman.

Several characters have used the Spider-Woman cape in the comics, but it is unknown whether Julia and Mattie will use the same name in Sony’s Spider-Man universe.

Although Sony Pictures has been hiding Madame Web for a long time, this first trailer looks promising. It could provide a solid new foundation for Sony’s Spider-Man universe to build on. Adam Scott is rumoured to play a young Ben Parker, while Emma Roberts could play his sister Peter’s mother. This would set the movie up as a Spider-Man prequel. Hopefully, more details about the movie will emerge sooner rather than later as it approaches its February 2024 release.
