Dakota Johnson Reveals What She Finds Most Exciting About Madame Web [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Dakota Johnson joins the Sony Marvel universe as the star of Madame Web.

Madame Web will mark a milestone in Sony’s Marvel universe, with Dakota Johnson, who plays the titular crime-fighter, set to star in the first film based around a female lead.

In fact, the Madame Web movie is still shrouded in mystery. No plot details have been revealed, and it remains unclear which incarnation of the Madame Web from the comics will be the model for Johnson’s version. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dakota Johnson remains tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the film, though she did touch on how excited she is to enter the franchise.

As Johnson explained, discovering a character not well known outside of the Marvel fanbase excites her because of the creative freedom it brings.

Dakota Johnson is also excited to be part of an action movie that promises to be a blockbuster, something she feels exceptionally fortunate to have done after watching Top Gun: Maverick. Soon it will be Johnson’s time to shine as the star of her own action film.

“I can tell you pretty much nothing that isn’t already on the internet. I’m so excited. It’s pretty cool to be in the Marvel world, especially with a character that’s not so known. There’s a lot of space to make her very cool. I’m very excited. It’s always been a dream of mine to do some kind of massive action movie. I always wanted to be like a female Indiana Jones. I really have always… I saw the new Top Gun, and it’s so good! It’s so good. There’s something about those movies, that’s just like, ‘Wow, a real human being can do that?'”

In Marvel stories, Madame Web is usually portrayed as a kind of psychic mutant.

She was often imagined as an older woman suffering from myasthenia gravis, which requires a support system resembling a spider’s web, and gave her the nickname Madame Web. Another version of Madame Web, which seems more likely to have inspired Dakota Johnson’s version, is Julia Carpenter’s character, who becomes Madame Web after she has acquired the precognitive abilities of the previous Madame.

Madame Web will be released in cinemas on 7 July 2023. For now, fans can catch Johnson in his new film Cha Cha Real Smooth on Apple TV+, while his next movie, Persuasion, will arrive on Netflix in July.
