Rocksteady’s next game will initially require a constant internet connection, even if you play it alone…
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was one of the games that will be released next year instead of 2023, although in this case Warner decided long before, back in the spring, that the Suicide Squad game could use some time to get the team of Batman: Arkham games (except Batman: Arkham Origins, made by WB Montréal, which recently flopped with Gotham Knights) in an acceptable state: The reception during State of Play was not very good.
On the Discord server dedicated to the game, the developers have revealed that the game is getting something that should be there by default, and nowadays you should also be happy with what you should expect from any single-player game: being playable offline. “We are happy to confirm that we are planning to add an offline story mode that will allow players to experience the main campaign without an internet connection. We are aiming to add this update in 2024 and will provide more details as they become available,” Rocksteady wrote.
It should be added that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League uses a live service model, so it is possible that Rocksteady and Warner will stop this in the future, and only then it will be possible to play offline. This is what happened with the now unpurchasable Marvel’s Avengers, which turned out to be a huge failure. So they want to release the content first, and then cut the mandatory Internet connection.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn’t a cross-gen game, so it won’t be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 2nd, just PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (almost certainly they’ll even add Denuvo to the Internet connection requirement…).
