Nintendo Switch 2: “Not Revolutionary”, Says A Prominent Analyst!

Meanwhile, Japanese game developers are eagerly awaiting the next generation of hardware from the Japanese company.

On Gamesindustry you can read the 2024 predictions of several developers and analysts. Among them is Kantan Games analyst Dr. Serkan Toto, who previously predicted that the Nintendo Switch would get a Pro model, but the plans were eventually scrapped by the Japanese company. Now, the veteran analyst says that the Switch’s successor will be an iteration rather than something revolutionary (like the Wii was… and its codename was Revolution!), which means that an already known formula will be refined. In other words, the Switch’s successor won’t be significantly different from the hybrid platform released in 2017!

“The time has finally come for a successor to the Switch, although I can say that a “Pro” model actually existed and certain developers were already working with the dev kit. I believe the next hardware will be released next year for $400. There is a good chance that the games will also cost more: $70. The next system is also likely to be more of an iteration than a revolution. Nintendo may add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch. And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way in the world that Nintendo will drop the portability feature for its next big thing,” Toto said.

Capcom’s Masao Kawada, director of the Resident Evil 3 Remake, told Japanese publication 4gamer that the year 2024 will bring new indie games and consoles. Plural. We can guess: the developer was thinking of the PlayStation 5 Pro and the Nintendo Switch 2! Other developers are also excited about the Switch’s successor, such as Fumihiko Yasuda (Koei Tecmo), director of Rise of the Ronin and Nioh. Kenichi Ogasaware (also of Koei Tecmo), on the other hand, has given the platform a name and says it’s already the focus of attention. Yusuke Katakata (Spike Chunsoft) is also excited about the next platform from the big N.

So the industry is getting ready for a change.
