Apple Vision: Pro-less Mentions In The New iOS Beta; Lame Extras With The Pricy Headset?

TECH NEWS – As usual, Apple brings form to its very expensive product.

The Apple Vision Pro will be released in the USA on February 2. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, stocks are running out fast, so some buyers will have to wait to get their hands on the device. Meanwhile, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also working on Apple Vision. It’s no coincidence that we left the word “Pro” out of its name: 9to5mac reported that Apple’s latest iOS 17 beta doesn’t use the name in code references to the headset. The App Store strings used to say Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro apps, but the word Pro has been dropped.

We’ve also previously reported that Apple is rumored to be working on a cheaper Vision headset that the company would announce in the next few years, so don’t expect a lower-priced one to appear in a few months. The lower-priced but admittedly less powerful AR headset will still be expensive for Apple, so we wouldn’t be put off if they were to charge $2,000 for the budget model.

Mark Gurman, writing for Bloomberg, summarized the press release for Apple’s headset on Twitter. The Apple Vision Pro will have 16GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The reading lens will cost $100 and the general lens $150, both made by Zeiss. There’s a normal and a top band in the box, but there will also be a USB-C charging cable and adapter, a light seal, a pair of light seal cushions, a front protector (to protect the 4K microLED panels), and a polishing cloth, which will cost $19. So Apple is gracious enough to give away something this cheap for what may be one of its most expensive products ever.

Typical Apple minimalism.
