A New Batman: Arkham Game Isn’t Out Of The Question After Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League!

Despite the highly destructive storyline of Rocksteady’s game, the studio still has the potential to return to the Batman: Arkham series.

Warning: Spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. The game has a much darker sense of humor and takes a looter-shooter approach rather than the melee-focused game set in the Arkhamverse. The Flash, Green Lantern, Batman and Superman were brainwashed by Brainiac, and Wonder Woman, though immune to him, was killed by Superman. At the end of the game, Task Force X begins exploring the multiverse to hunt down the other Brainiacs, which opens up a lot of possibilities for the studio (for example, characters from other dimensions can return, but they can also return).

If the Joker is an alternate version, and Lex Luthor appeared that way, why not use an alternate version from another world for Batman? Brainiac has done DNA modification on the superheroes he’s dominated (it could have brought healing abilities: when Wonder Woman hit Superman with the kryptonite, he escaped within a short time and was able to recover, or there’s Flash’s severed and regrown thumb), and their DNA could allow for a return. The character of Batman, on the other hand, merged with Kevin Conroy’s performance, but he died in November 2022, and his successor (if he had one) would be constantly compared to Conroy’s performance… but in the WB Games Montréal games (Batman: Arkham Origins, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate), Roger Craig Smith was Batman, albeit a younger version.

This is the same studio that worked on a canceled Batman game. In the case of Project Sabbath, more than one person would have taken on the role of Batman (Goran Bukvic’s concept art showed an older, bearded protagonist; and a younger, more modern costumed one). Damian Wayne was never introduced in the Arkhamverse, but a successor from the family cannot be ruled out. Tim Drake, the world’s Robin, died at the hands of Batman. Oracle, Nightwing or Red Hood could be connected to Batman’s holographic message (we don’t know how long it took for Robin to be killed).

Five years go by without Batman while the family protects Gotham City, leaving Dick Grayson to take over…
