Assassin’s Creed: Red: More Emphasis On Stealth?

Tom Henderson has revealed more about the next game from the Ubisoft IP.

This game will be an open-world action-RPG that Ubisoft expects to release within a year, as the French publisher plans to release it in the next fiscal year starting in April. Henderson has seen some early footage of the game, which has shed some light on the gameplay mechanics and an update to the game’s engine. It won’t run on a new engine, but on an updated version of Anvil called Anvil Pipeline (which is certainly the only name used internally within the company).

Ubisoft wants a unified approach to franchise development, and that’s what the Anvil Pipeline is for. They can then develop the next Assassin’s Creed episodes in a more optimized way. Users will also see a number of new features, such as ray-tracing global illumination and virtual geometry, as well as improved animations, a revamped parkour system and dynamic weather.

The combat will be similar to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, but a little rougher, so you’ll be able to decapitate your opponent. Stealth will be more important than ever: you’ll be able to extinguish torches, hide in bushes and tall grass, and lie on your stomach so enemies can’t see you. The settlement system seen in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will be expanded in Assassin’s Creed: Red, where it will be called Hideouts. We can build an armory or a doko in our hideouts and customize them, so we can decide on the roof or even the interior design.

But there will be one difference compared to Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. That game was cross-gen, so Ubisoft released it for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Assassin’s Creed: Red will only be for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (or Amazon Luna, as the French publisher is heavily backing the Google Stadia platform). But all this is not official yet!
