Electronic Arts: The Star Wars Strategy Is Still In Development!

Despite the cancellation of the Star Wars shooter game announced by Respawn Entertainment two years ago, the development of another project (and the third episode of Star Wars Jedi) may continue.

Last week, not only did Sony lay off nearly a thousand employees, but Electronic Arts also laid off about seven hundred people after cutting five percent of its workforce. The result was the cancellation of the Star Wars FPS at Respawn Entertainment. But there is another studio working on the Star Wars IP: Bit Reactor, and the team has tweeted that we should not be alarmed because they are still working on the Star Wars strategy.

Bit Reactor wrote on Twitter that the previous freeze was difficult for the gaming industry, especially because they had strong relationships with many other teams within Respawn. However, those who fear that their game may be affected need not worry, as it is still in development and the studio has not been affected by last week’s news of layoffs. Respawn’s game was announced in 2022 and was led by Peter Hirschmann. He previously worked at LucasArts and was the co-creator of Medal of Honor before working on the original Battlefront games and The Force Unleashed, so he had Star Wars experience.

“Respawn’s unique ability to connect with players and create exceptional game experiences is unparalleled in the entertainment industry. As we’ve looked at Respawn’s portfolio over the past few months, it’s clear that the games our players are most excited about are Jedi and Respawn’s rich library of owned brands. Knowing this, we have decided to move away from early development of a Star Wars FPS action game and focus our efforts on new projects based on our owned brands, while continuing to support our existing games,” EA Entertainment president Laura Miele wrote about Respawn.

So it’s not that bad.
