Electronic Arts recently raised the price of its EA Play subscription service, and with the gaming industry’s penchant for following suit, it was only a matter of time before Rockstar Games and Take-Two raised the price of their own subscription services.
GTA+ was previously available for $/€6 per month, but the price increase means that you will now have to pay $/€8 per month. You might say that’s not much, but if you look at it as a percentage, it’s a 33% increase. In the United States the increase is the same, while in the United Kingdom it is 40% (£7 instead of £5). And there is no way to pay for several months or even a year in advance, which usually comes with a discount, because Take-Two only offers monthly subscriptions.
GTA+ was launched in March 2022, just over two years ago. It gives Grand Theft Auto Online players extra money, cars, cosmetic items, and subscriber-only events, so Rockstar and Take-Two are not only taking some money from GTA Online with Shark Cards, but also with a subscription. But it wasn’t much, and so Take-Two finally decided to make some of Rockstar’s previous games available on a frequent rotation for some titles.
The following games are currently available on GTA+: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Xbox, PlayStation), Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Android, iOS), Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Android, iOS), Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series). Later this year, Bully and LA Noire will also join the service.
So who will be next to announce a price hike after all this? It won’t be Sony: last year they raised the price of PlayStation Plus significantly (by up to 35%).
