All Modern Fallout Games have Made it to the Steam Deck’s April Top 20!

STEAM DECK NEWS – This is what transmedia is all about: the first season of Amazon’s Fallout series has led many to pick up games from the franchise released over the past decade and a half, and we’re seeing it on Valve’s portable PC as well.

Valve has released its top 20 list for April 2024 based on playtime on Twitter, and sure enough, all four modern Fallout titles were frequently played on Steam Deck, and the list is a testament to that:

  1. Stardew Valley
  2. Fallout 4
  3. Balatro
  4. Baldur’s Gate 3
  5. Helldivers 2
  6. Elden Ring
  7. Fallout: New Vegas
  8. Cyberpunk 2077
  9. Grand Theft Auto V
  10. Fallout 76
  11. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
  12. Monster Hunter: World
  13. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
  14. Slay the Spire
  15. Red Dead Redemption 2
  16. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
  17. Vampire Survivor
  18. Hades
  19. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  20. Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition

So second, seventh, tenth, and twentieth place went to Fallout (and if we replace Obsidian’s development, Fallout: New Vegas, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, then Todd Howard’s studio, Bethesda Game Studios, took four out of twenty places), which is an excellent showing. This list may have been tainted by Fallout 4’s next-gen update, which rendered the mods unplayable, and the release of the Fallout: London mod, which was scheduled for release in April, was delayed indefinitely.

The success of transmedia has been demonstrated before with The Witcher. When the series was released, the number of concurrent players for The Witcher 3 was higher than ever, and sales increased by 554% (!!!). It’s no wonder that Microsoft is eager to get Fallout 5 out the door, and Howard keeps promising that they’ll speed up development so that Redmond doesn’t take it away from them (they’re working on Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC and The Elder Scrolls VI).

Regardless, congratulations to Fallout.
