Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: Frank West’s Facelift [VIDEO]

Capcom is remastering the first Dead Rising, and the Japanese company has made a surprising change to the look of the protagonist.

For now, only a teaser video of the Dead Rising remaster is known. The game was originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2006, so that’s almost two decades ago. The remaster will be released for “next-gen platforms” sometime this year, so the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC trio are all in the cards, and Capcom might also release it for the Nintendo Switch successor later on, which also has Frank West’s look tweaked a bit with the RE engine (presumably with the next-gen version of the engine, RE neXt or REX). There are two comparison screenshots, which can be seen below. Especially the second one shows how different Frank looks… but we think he looks too much like Leisure Suit Larry!

We’ll be hearing more about the game on Capcom Next. This starts on July 1st at 15:00 Pacific, and you can watch it on YouTube (in the second video embedded below), so we’ll probably have a review of what the Japanese company is showing on Tuesday. We’ve already been told what to expect: in addition to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and the iOS and Mac versions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will also make an appearance in the 25-minute broadcast.

So it seems like Capcom is testing the audience. If there’s demand, they’ll move forward with Dead Rising 5. Dead Rising 4 came out in December 2016, and didn’t have the traditional time-based system. Capcom Vancouver started development on Dead Rising 5 (they did it between 2016 and 2018), but in Japan they decided to cancel the project and after spending $40 million on development, the studio closed. According to Liam Robertson, the game would have taken place in Santa Catarina, Mexico, between Dead Rising 2 and 3, and would have featured Chuck Greene, the protagonist of the second part, in a game using Unreal Engine 4, which could have taken on a more serious style.

Maybe they’ll go back to that, maybe not.
