Fantasy RPG fans are clamoring for a next-gen version of The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, but CD Projekt says its focus is squarely on Cyberpunk 2077. While Geralt’s story is already playable on the original Switch, some see a golden opportunity to re-release the game with enhanced features.
Nintendo is working hard to curate a powerful launch lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2, including exclusive releases and support from major third-party developers. Among the most talked-about titles from its latest showcase were Elden Ring, Split Fiction, and Cyberpunk 2077. The latter’s presence reignited hope among fans for an upgraded version of The Witcher 3, tailored to take full advantage of the new console’s hardware. Although Wild Hunt is already available on the original Switch, speculation about a remastered or enhanced edition is now back in the spotlight. CD Projekt, however, appears to be channeling all of its efforts into bringing Night City to Nintendo’s next-gen platform.
Filip Downar, a gameplay systems expert at CD Projekt RED, sat down with Eurogamer UK to discuss the studio’s collaboration with Nintendo on the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077. Naturally, the conversation turned to whether an updated edition of The Witcher 3 might also be in the pipeline. “Our relationship with Nintendo began with the original Switch, when we brought over The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The response from players was fantastic, and once we heard about the more powerful Switch 2, we immediately knew Cyberpunk would be a perfect fit.”
According to Downar, the team’s attention is entirely on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Switch 2. Although the studio is working on other projects in parallel, there are currently no plans for an enhanced Witcher release. “The team did a tremendous job rolling out all the updates, and we’re excited for a new audience—as well as longtime fans—to discover Night City through the Switch 2.”
Cyberpunk 2077 Will Use Switch 2’s Special Features
CD Projekt is aiming to fully utilize the Switch 2’s new capabilities—not just in visual fidelity, but also in terms of gameplay innovation. The studio has confirmed that this version of Cyberpunk 2077 will support gyroscopic aiming, the new Joy-Con 2’s “mouse mode,” and touchscreen controls. Like several other titles announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, this one will be available at launch alongside the console itself.
