Far Cry 2 could be Excellent with a Newer Episode’s Modern Technology! [VIDEO]

The second episode of the franchise, which is twenty years old this year (Far Cry was launched in 2004), is sadly neglected these days, as even Ubisoft doesn’t talk much about it.

Released in the fall of 2008 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, Far Cry 2 was technologically ahead of its time (the second video embedded below, a comparison, can explain this better for us…). We’re stuck in a war-torn African country, we’ve contracted malaria, and we have to deal with corrupt warlords to somehow stay afloat. We must exploit our enemies’ weaknesses to neutralize their overwhelming force with the element of surprise. And in a major twist, the protagonist of the first episode has become the villain of the sequel!

While Ubisoft is not very keen on making games that predate Far Cry 3, one fan, Mojo Swoptops, has recreated Far Cry 2 in Far Cry 5’s arcade mode. It’s basically a level editor, so it’s essentially a semi-official solution. The editor was one of the positive features of Far Cry 5, but they forgot to tell the French publisher, because Far Cry 6 doesn’t have this feature! Nevertheless, Far Cry 5 can still hold its own in terms of technology.

The Arcade Mode concept left out something that was in the base game. Something that was maybe a little annoying, because the health condition caused by malaria was left out of the fan concept. You had to take medication often because of the disease, and if you didn’t, you could become immobilized, which was good for your opponents because they could just shoot you in a heartbeat.

Meanwhile, Far Cry 7 is in the works, but Ubisoft hasn’t talked about it yet, so we’ll have to wait for an announcement. It probably won’t be released in the fiscal year ending in March, but it could be in the next one. Maybe the publisher will announce it at The Game Awards. If not, it won’t happen until Ubisoft Forward 2024.
