Elon Musk Could Get Such a Huge Fine from the EU for X Like Never Before!

TECH NEWS – Elon Musk is being threatened with a potentially historic fine by the European Union for encouraging deceptive audit practices.

Elon Musk is in serious trouble following an ongoing European investigation. After Ubisoft’s CEO had to speak out against hate speech directed at his staff following the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, increasingly “wild west” conditions on the X have prompted the old continent to reconsider whether a historic fine is the best way to stop Musk.

As reported in a recent publication by the TechSpot portal, X is facing severe problems in Europe due to misinformation and hate speech.

Not to mention aspects related to illegal content on the platform.

As a result, the European Commission launched an investigation into whether the social network breached the Digital Services Act (DSA). This is one of the organization’s strictest regulations. As a result, X was officially accused of not complying with EU social networking law.

Elon Musk is also being attacked for “verified” profiles

One of the main objections is the “blue check” verification system. The latter allows anyone to get a “verified profile” if they pay. As a result, there is evidence that malicious actors on the platform are abusing the verification system to trick users. The case of pharmaceutical manufacturer Eli Lilly is cited as an example. The company’s shares fell 4% after a fake publication appeared on X. This, as well as non-compliance with the requirements related to the transparency of advertisements, prompted the EU to deal with the platform.

As if that weren’t enough, X currently restricts access to its public data for researchers. This is an essential requirement for compliance with DSA guidelines. So, if the charges are confirmed, X can count on a fine of up to 6% of its global annual turnover. Earlier, in September 2023, Europe had already identified X as the social platform on which the highest proportion of disinformation appeared on the networks. A few months later, you may also suffer the consequences of this charge in the form of another hefty fine…
