Project: Jinyiwei: Atmospheric Chinese RPG for PlayStation 5?! Here’s the Trailer! [VIDEO]

Still in development, Project: Jinyiwei is part of Sony’s China Hero Project and will be on display at this weekend’s ChinaJoy 2024.

The expansion of major publishers in China and South Korea has become more and more noticeable in recent years. Microsoft’s collaboration with Round8 for Lies of P and PlayStation’s handshake with SHIFT UP for Stellar Blade are important examples. But at the Asian giant, Sony also gained significant ground. As part of ChinaJoy 2024, the Japanese company announced that the open-world RPG Project: Jinyiwei will be part of the PlayStation China Hero Project, confirming its arrival on the PS5.

The PlayStation China Hero Project program continues to expand its repertoire with promising titles such as Project: Jinyiwei.

This confirms Sony Interactive Entertainment’s commitment to supporting Chinese developers and bringing their creations to a global audience. In this case, the Japanese company will support the development of CangMo Game Entertainment, whose first promising gameplay we saw half a year ago.

An open world with martial arts – this is what Project: Jinyiwei promises

For those who don’t know it yet, Project: Jinyiwei can be considered the Chinese answer to Ghost of Tsushima. In this case, we’re talking about an open-world RPG focused on crazy, wuxia-esque action. This genre, which has gained more and more ground in recent years with examples such as Phantom Blade Zero, will offer the opportunity to fight both with weapons, be they katanas or similar, and with a repertoire of martial arts that is as colourful as it is spectacular.

Little information is available about the game. Of course, this is logical, given that it is still a work in progress. According to Gematsu, Project: Jinyiwei will take us back to the time of the late Ming Dynasty (the first half of the 17th century), and our protagonist will be involved in a story with a solid narrative interest, covering both warfare and palace intrigues. Although CangMo Game Entertainment’s game is historically based, it seems to be flirting with fantasy elements in a mix that would bring it closer to Assassin’s Creed.

A specific release date for Project: Jinyiwei on PlayStation 5 has not yet been announced. It is rumoured to arrive sometime in 2025. Be that as it may, the excitement the game generated in the hours leading up to ChinaJoy 2024, where it will be playable at the PlayStation booth, could indicate that the game is expected to receive a positive reception in the global market.
