PlayStation 5 Pro: How Will It Differ from the Base Model?

The PlayStation 5’s half-generation update has already been confirmed by an insider who previously leaked more PlayStation Plus (later PlayStation Plus Essential) games…

Billbil-kun has reported in French on Dealabs what he has learned about the yet-to-be-announced PlayStation 5 Pro. He confirmed the name as he was able to see the front of the finalized packaging. It shows the design of the console, which looks very similar to the base model, although there are some small differences and the PlayStation 5 Pro will be slightly thicker (as the PlayStation 4 Pro followed the same principle, Sony has stuck to its usual practice…).

The PlayStation 5 Pro may be released without a Blu-ray drive, as the leaker saw the console without one on the packaging, but couldn’t confirm if this will be the only model. Of course, the package will include a simple DualSense controller. Billbil-kun doesn’t know when the half-generation update will be unveiled, but he doesn’t think it will be long in coming, as it could be in the first half of September, so in two weeks at the latest.

This could follow the scenario we’ve been talking about before: in the first half of September, Sony will unveil the PlayStation 5 Pro (hopefully with a release date and price to match…) and then take it to the Tokyo Game Show, where Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will show how fantastic Kojima Productions’ next game will be on the more powerful PlayStation 5. That would be the sensible thing to do.

The PlayStation 5 Pro, like the unofficially named Nintendo Switch 2, is simply a poorly kept secret. The half-generation upgrade will hit stores during the holiday rush at the end of the year (we don’t know how much, but we’re guessing €/$700).
