The fan modernization of the original PC version of Silent Hill 2 has been completed with the final and tenth update, and the developers admittedly didn’t try to compete with Bloober Team with the timing…
The Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition fan project has been running for several years now, and it bids farewell to its audience with a 60+ minute video, as the tenth update marks the end of work on Konami’s 20+ year old PC port (which you can’t even legally buy these days… don’t even bother looking for it on Steam). But what did the latest update bring? Better environmental assets, flashlight reflections have been fixed, water looks better, scenes (FMVs) actually run at 60 FPS, and the game in general has been improved in several ways.
Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition has become what the PS3 and Xbox 360 didn’t get with the Silent Hill HD Collection (only the second and third episodes were there…). Konami had already done some interesting things). The 16:9 aspect ratio, upscaled graphics, and improved controls make this one of the most outstanding games in the genre, and we’re not exaggerating: it still holds its own today! That’s how memorable Team Silent’s creation has become.
“If any major bugs or issues are found that are directly caused by changes to our project’s code for this final update, we will go back and fix them. This update (Update #10) has been planned as our final update for two years now. After working on the project for nearly seven years, we are satisfied with everything we wanted to develop and ultimately achieve for the game,” the modders said in their farewell message.
Of course, you’ll need the original (North American or European) PC port of Silent Hill 2 to install the mod. If you have it (we can’t help you with that!), you can find the necessary package on the mod’s website…
