MOVIE NEWS – Andrew Garfield also explained why he thinks Spider-Man 4 rumours fool everyone…
There is already a serious tradition of Andrew Garfield’s “lies” when it comes to his possible return to the role of Spider-Man. That’s why it’s hard to believe his latest reaction to rumours that he’ll be casting nets again. The actor was recently asked about the many rumours of him reuniting with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the MCU’s Spider-Man 4. In response, he launched into an explanation that everyone was being “scammed” by a worldwide web.
Spider-Man: No Way Home delivered an epic multiverse adventure that exceeded fan expectations and revenue projections. It became one of Marvel Studios’ biggest hits. That means the next Spider-Man movie is under a lot of pressure to be a worthy successor. According to earlier reports, this has led to a long delay in the release of Holland’s next Spider-Man film, while Marvel Studios and partner studio Sony struggle to figure out exactly what the film should look like.
Meanwhile, rumours have surfaced about where Peter Parker’s story might go next. This includes talks of another multiverse adventure (while that’s still possible). But Garfield says fans shouldn’t believe everything they read. Speaking to IndieWire while promoting his new film We Live in Time at TIFF, Garfield said:
“I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.”
Andrew Garfield has long denied Spider-Man roles
A few months before the final Spider-Man film hit theatres, accompanied by returning former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Garfield, the latter categorically denied that he would be involved in the film. When pictures of Garfield on a blue screen shoot started circulating online, the actor dismissed them as fakes. Even on its opening weekend, when the truth about his involvement became apparent to everyone, he still (jokingly) denied being in the film.
With all of this in mind, it’s hard to take any denials from Garfield about another return seriously.
However, the actor continued to hint that he would be happy to dress up again at any time if the right story came along. He noted:
“I think it’s kind of endless, what can be done with that character. Not that we should; not that we will, but I think you can always find another story to tell.”
Many fans have already demanded that Garfield get a third solo film in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. According to many, that story ended too soon. However, it’s more likely that Garfield – and Maguire – will be next seen in the upcoming Avengers, which is expected to bring together the past and present Marvel heroes of the multiverse in a cataclysmic battle for survival.
It’s currently unclear when Spider-Man 4 will be released and how it will potentially fit into the current saga. Since filming hasn’t started yet, there’s a chance that Holland’s next Spider-Man movie will hit theatres sometime between the next two Avengers movies. This would undoubtedly increase the chances of some multiverse crossovers being a big part of the story…
