Ubisoft’s franchise will continue, but not in the usual way that Watch Dogs, which launched ten and a half years ago (after a delay of almost six months…), will do so in a slightly different way.
The French publisher has announced a sequel to the third episode of the franchise, Watch Dogs: Legion, which was released on October 29, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and the now defunct Google Stadia, then it was one of the launch titles on the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 in November, with the story set in London. It’s getting a sequel… but it won’t be a video game; it’ll be an interactive audio experience!
It’s called Watch Dogs Truth, and will see the return of several characters from the series. Among them will be the self-aware artificial intelligence Bagley. Here’s the official description: “Listeners to this thrilling story will once again join the fight for truth, guided by the self-aware AI, Bagley, as they make decisions at the end of each episode, with choices that shape the hacking collective’s next move, profoundly impact character relationships, and ultimately the success of the resistance effort. Throughout the series, listeners will have the fate of the city in their own hands as the government’s Cyber Intelligence Service (SIRS) orchestrates a sinister campaign of message manipulation and fake news, prompting DedSec to fight back using their revered tactics to combat alarming disinformation.”
Watch Dogs Truth will also star Russell Tovey, Freema Agyeman, David Morrissey, Gary Beadle and T’Nia Miller. Meanwhile, a film adaptation of an original story is in the works. It will be directed by Mathieu Turi and star Sophie Wilde and Tom Blyth. But it will probably be released after Watch Dogs Truth…
It’s probably also a survey by Ubisoft to see if there’s enough interest in Watch Dogs Truth. If so, they might even green-flag a new game in development…
