TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based company has reportedly stopped production of the Apple Vision Pro AR headset at the beginning of 2025, so if you haven’t been able to buy one, it won’t be so easy from now on.
The AR headset was released in February, and according to internal figures, it hasn’t even reached half a million units shipped, so it clearly wasn’t mass-produced (understandably, since it was $3,500 by default, so it was also quite expensive compared to the company’s previous products). In the face of poor sales, it won the Gadget of the Year award for its visual quality and seamless user experience, but despite all the accolades, the success of a product is determined by its sales… and the Apple Vision Pro was not successful in this regard; made worse by the fact that some users returned the device to the company after only a few uses.
Due to the lack of interest, Apple has halted further production, and according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the production of the cheaper Apple Vision Pro could be delayed until 2027 or beyond, so that a more expensive model could be released instead, in which the company could use the M5 shoe. According to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, this device won’t hit stores before the end of 2026. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, tried to explain the poor sales of the headset by saying that it was not a mass product, but a product of tomorrow being sold today.
There were few successful applications and the app library was not extensive enough, and Apple is trying to fix this with future updates to improve productivity with an ultra-wide virtual display, and is working with ResMed to develop a $120 strap to take the strain off your head. But if these had been released earlier, interest in the device might have been better.
As it is, the Apple Vision Pro has not become something that the company could call mainstream. In fact, the opposite is true.
