New maps, game modes, and a release date mark the beginning of Season 1 for the free-to-play game. NetEase and Marvel Games have announced that the first season kicks off this week, running for three months.
Few would have predicted the overwhelming success of Marvel Rivals on Steam, where it has amassed nearly half a million players. Surprisingly, a month later, the game has maintained a stable player base, losing only a small fraction of its initial users. NetEase’s hero shooter has proven to be highly addictive, and as expected, the developers have responded with the launch of the first season, led by the Fantastic Four. This season is titled Eternal Night Falls.
As is common with many service-based games, the first content season didn’t launch immediately after the game’s release, allowing players time to familiarize themselves with the gameplay without the pressure of competitive environments or limited-time rewards. Thus, Marvel Rivals began with Season 0 in December, paving the way for Season 1, Eternal Night Falls, which launches on January 10 and introduces Marvel’s First Family and, unexpectedly, Dracula.
Season 1 is set to begin on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM Spanish time. However, players should prepare for potential server issues and a required patch download to access the new content.
One of the key questions surrounding this season is whether the Fantastic Four will be available from day one. While Marvel Games and NetEase have not confirmed their immediate inclusion, it seems Mr. Fantastic will play a pivotal role in the new season. If their introduction is staggered, it will likely begin with him. Additionally, Dracula has been confirmed as the season’s main villain, much like Doom in the previous installment.
This new season also features three maps, all situated within a shared general area but divided into distinct zones. The first map, Sanctum Sanctorum, will debut on January 10, followed by Midtown during the season’s first half, and finally Central Park, which will conclude the trio at the season’s end. Unlike Season 0, Season 1 will run longer, spanning from January to March, as confirmed by NetEase.
Additionally, Season 1 introduces a new game mode called Doom Match. This mode accommodates 8–12 players in a single map. In a unique twist resembling a “free-for-all,” each player acts as an independent faction and battles against others. The top 50% of players based on points at the end of the match will be declared the winners.
