MOVIE NEWS – The best pilot in a galaxy far, far away might be making a return, as new speculation hints that Oscar Isaac could step back into the Star Wars universe as Poe Dameron. The Emmy-nominated actor first played the Resistance ace in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, starring alongside Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn. Known as one of the best pilots in the Rebellion, Poe quickly became a trusted ally to Rey and Finn in their battle against the First Order.
Many assumed Poe’s journey in Star Wars ended with the highly divisive The Rise of Skywalker, the film that closed out the sequel trilogy. However, his time in the skies might not be over just yet. According to the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram page, Oscar Isaac will be attending this year’s event in Tokyo this April. While the post didn’t confirm anything beyond his attendance, fans have already begun speculating that Isaac could be gearing up for a Star Wars return in a future project.
There are several upcoming films where Poe Dameron could logically appear. The most obvious choice is New Jedi Order, the long-anticipated film that will see Daisy Ridley return as Rey Skywalker. Given their strong bond throughout the sequel trilogy, it would make sense for Poe to play a role in this new chapter. Another possibility is the brand-new Star Wars trilogy being developed by X-Men producer Simon Kinberg. However, plot details for the project remain scarce, and it’s unclear if it will take place far enough into the future for Poe to return. Of course, there’s always the chance that this trilogy could suffer the same fate as other scrapped Star Wars projects—remember when Rian Johnson was supposed to get his own trilogy?
Could Oscar Isaac Really Return to Star Wars?
As much as fans want to see Poe Dameron back in the cockpit of an X-Wing, the ultimate question remains: does Oscar Isaac actually want to return? With the sequel trilogy now complete, the actor is under no obligation to reprise his role. In fact, back in 2020, he bluntly stated that he was done with Star Wars, joking that he would only come back if he “needed another house or something.”
Thankfully, his stance softened a bit in 2022. During an interview with Variety, Isaac admitted he had “no real feeling one way or another” about returning to Star Wars, though he added that he was “open to anything.” His apparent indifference may stem from Disney’s decision to reject his idea of developing a romance arc between Poe and Finn, something many fans had been hoping to see after the clear chemistry between the characters in The Force Awakens.
For now, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has confirmed Poe Dameron’s return.
