New Marvel Rumor Hints at Sony Rebooting the Spider-Man Universe

MOVIE NEWS – Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has been struggling ever since Kraven the Hunter flopped at the box office, leading the studio to hit the brakes on future projects indefinitely. While Venom proved to be a financial hit, the franchise has failed to establish itself without a Spider-Man at its core. Tom Holland remains the MCU’s Spider-Man, but Sony appears to have its own plans. According to new rumors, the studio could be preparing a fresh start after Avengers: Secret Wars, this time with Miles Morales leading the charge.

A report from Cosmic Circus suggests that Sony is considering rebooting its Spider-Man Universe with a live-action Miles Morales following Secret Wars. While this remains unconfirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt, speculation about Miles joining Sony’s slate has been circulating for years. The key difference now seems to be Sony’s intent to fully commit to a Spider-Man-centric universe. The leaked report claims:

“The reason for this [reboot] is Miles. Based on the information I have, which should be taken cautiously, he will be introduced in a rebooted Sony Universe set up after Secret Wars.”

One potential complication is Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who has previously expressed interest in bringing Miles Morales into the MCU. Given that Secret Wars is expected to be the culmination of the Multiverse Saga, many fans believe it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce an alternate Spider-Man. However, if Sony retains creative control over the character after Secret Wars, Miles could instead become the foundation of a brand-new Sony-exclusive franchise. Another factor in play is the Spider-Verse animated trilogy, which continues to be delayed with no confirmed release date for its conclusion.

All the Spider-Man Projects Currently in Development

Sony and Marvel Studios both have multiple Spider-Man projects in the works. Disney+ is currently airing Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, an animated series set within the MCU’s multiverse but existing outside the sacred timeline. The series has been well-received for its fresh take on Spider-Man lore and the introduction of villains not yet explored in Tom Holland’s movies.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man 4 is moving forward under Marvel Studios and Sony, with filming expected to begin later this year. Reports indicate that the sequel will delve deeper into the multiverse, continuing themes introduced in No Way Home.

On the Sony side, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still in development, despite numerous delays, and could hit theaters as early as 2026 or 2027. Additionally, Sony is actively working on Spider-Noir, a live-action Prime Video series featuring Nicolas Cage reprising his animated role as the noir-style Spider-Man.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe may be on hold for now, but if these rumors are true, the studio could be gearing up for a fresh start with Miles Morales at the center.
