TECH NEWS – AMD has delayed the unveiling of its next-generation graphics cards running on RDNA 4 architecture, and now we’re hearing a possible timeline for when its proper presentation could come.
The “red” RDNA 4 graphics cards still don’t have a release date. Previously, we heard that they could be in stores as early as the end of January, but AMD later pushed that back to March, saying that they needed more time to get the software support (i.e. drivers…) in perfect condition. Benchlife has now reported when the pre-release presentation might take place.
According to the site, unless something unexpected happens in the next few weeks, AMD is planning a press conference for the end of February to reveal all about the Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards, but they can’t confirm any details about the RDNA 4 architecture yet. We can expect more than that though, as AMD will also be revealing the other X3D processors at the event.
This is the first time AMD has launched something in March, and it’s a strategic decision, as AMD wanted to analyze what Nvidia did with its Blackwell architecture (RTX 5000) graphics cards to come up with a more aggressive response, and even a big surprise in the mainstream price range. The Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 are the ones we’ve heard about so far, and these will have up to 16GB of VRAM. The XT model will go up against the RTX 5070 Ti, while the non-XT model will go up against the RTX 5070.
AMD is focusing on the mainstream segment this time, so there are no plans to compete with the RTX 5090 on this architecture. So we can expect cheaper, less powerful, but probably excellent value for money graphics cards from this company. This means that besides the Intel Arc Battlemage B580, we could soon have another decent card on the market.
Competing with Nvidia in the lower price range is worthwhile, as they tend to be stingy with the VRAM in their cards…
