Atomfall: Beware of Exploding Sheeps and their Lung-Eating Spores! [VIDEO]

The British game can be quite dangerous, even when we think we are prepared for every eventuality.

Exploding animals. It’s the kind of thing we used to see in episodes of Worms, and it’s also the inspiration for Hogs of War, which replaced earthworms with pigs and 2D with 3D. (Also, both games/franchises were made in the UK.) When the animal in question died, it was killed with a big bang. This concept will be carried over to the post-apocalyptic Atomfall.

The video embedded below is mostly about exploring the post-nuclear quarantine zone around Windscale, with a look at some of the dangers you’ll encounter as you roam the game’s rolling fields and picturesque villages. These include familiar hazards such as mines and sentries, but we’d like to draw your attention to the sheep droppings. The video shows exploding sheep that can be infected with spores. These can crawl into our lungs and wreak havoc until we collapse lifeless. What a pleasant way to die…

The video also reveals more information about some of Atomfall’s other important UK touchpoints, most notably those red phone booths. Seeing them really brings the UK to mind. If you happen to walk by one in the game, chances are the phone inside will ring. If you pick it up, a voice at the end of the line might give you some useful advice or a mysterious warning. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what to expect, but the example in the video suggests that Oberon should die.

This all ties in with Atomfall’s emphasis on investigation. The game doesn’t have a traditional mission system, but instead offers various clues that you can follow at your own discretion. These are part of a larger web of interconnected stories that help unravel what happened after the Windscale fire. Several NPCs offer to help with the mission, but it’s not always clear (or useful to us) what their purpose is.

Atomfall is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 27th.
